Day Four (one)

I was on vacation. I couldn't get to the computer.
Anyway...
It took me a while to decide on this month's project.  As I near the end, I feel as though I am under pressure to make these last couple of months extra meaningful. I was inspired, however, by a set of photos from someone's Facebook page. It is an album he calls "Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner."   This friend of mine takes photos of the meals he makes.  I'm not sure how often he updates, maybe once a week - I get the sense it is a Sunday morning affair - but regardless, there is thoughtful presentation of each meal and often times documentation of the making of the meal.  The result is an incredibly sweet and quaint collection of food and family photos.

I thought about this for this month's project and how it may be meaningful or relevant to me. I concluded that it would serve multiple purposes. The first being that I want to start taking more pictures anyway, so this would prompt me to do so each day.  Since food pictures have to be 'arty' in order to be interesting, this will at least help me strengthen that muscle. Secondly, as you may know, I am borderline obsessive about counting calories. This means I am already keeping track of my food each day. Why not make it creative and interesting as well, instead of manic and, at times, depressing? Thirdly, another goal was to take a self-portrait each month. I have not been great about this.  I take a lot of pictures of myself, but mainly because I don't trust mirrors. Ever heard the saying, 'You are what you eat'?  Finally, for a long time I have wanted to learn how to cook...better.  I'm not ready to get super inventive in this realm, but summer is a great time to start experimenting because I have so much, well, time. I am thus photo-documenting that journey as well.

There are only two problems:

1. We are going on vacation at the end of the month, so I will have to post all photos when we get home.

2. Remembering. I already forgot multiple times today. I had to take a picture of the food remains from my dinner (which I made all by myself by the way!) instead of the food itself.

breakfast: flax seed tortilla, guacamole, and spinach wrap

lunch: avocado and sprout sandwich with pepper jack

dinner: sauteed baby broccoli and spinach with chili oil

I'm realizing just how very 'green' I ate today. I guess I'll balance it out with a glass of wine.
